The deceptively named Workers’ Rights Bill introduced by Representative David Rowe protects neither workers nor their rights. Aimed only at unionized public employees, including teachers, the bill if enacted would prohibit dues being deducted from public employees’ paychecks. Dues can only be deducted if authorized by the employee, just as employees voluntarily have deductions made for contributions to the United Way, for example.
This is a clear union busting tactic.
With modern technology there is virtually no cost to the taxpayers. Public employees in PA have had the right to organize for nearly fifty years. Membership in a union’s PAC is voluntary and union dues cannot be used for political purposes. Clear and simple, such a bill is nothing more than a political ply to silence workers’ voices.
